“Altosoft’s solution was extremely cost effective and was implemented in just a few days, so we realized immediate value from our investment.”

– Peter Gershkovich, M.D., M.H.A., Yale Medical School, Department of Pathology

Altosoft for Pathology:

Altosoft’s informatics solutions are suited to work with laboratory information systems including popular offerings by Cerner (CoPath), Sunquest (CoPath), MEDITECH (Magic), Elekta/IMPAC (PowerPath), McKesson and Siemens, to name a few. Here are some of the ways you can make use of these solutions:

  • Track laboratory processes as they occur and configure them, with a few clicks of your mouse, to alert you if problems (for instance, if a particular sample has not been attended to for longer than its critical period) arise.
  • Analyze historical data to pinpoint laboratory procedures which cause bottlenecks and hinder profitability. Thus, if the preparation of slides is taking particularly excessive time, you can affect workflow changes to ease the pipeline.
  • Drill into your data by clinical analyst to determine each individual's work rate and productivity.
  • Manage resource allocation based on parameters such as seasonal prevalence of diseases, to reduce patient wait times.
  • Enhance analyst resources and meet growing challenges without having to increase staffing.
  • Obtain holistic inter-departmental and intra-departmental insight by analyzing clinical, operational and financial data from disparate sources in conjunction with each other, without having to tackle the nuisance of data integration.

These are just some of the reasons why Altosoft's informatics solutions are used in conjunction with pathological systems.

Yale's Implementation:

Yale Medical School Department of Pathology is using Altosoft to monitor and analyze clinical operations. The Yale Pathology solution monitors data from their core Anatomic Pathology system, CoPath, and updates management dashboards with new information on an hourly basis. The system enables:

Monitoring. The system delivers trending information on essential metrics like number of cases, number of slides of tissue processed, pathologist workload, and the lab’s most critical metric, turnaround time.

Analysis. All metrics are drillable, and can be dynamically broken down by key dimensions like specimen class, service, client, pathologist, and more.

Executive Visibility. Key managers, including the department chair, will have direct access to dashboards and reports for monitoring and management purposes. All dashboard displays are user‐specific and can be customized for groups of users to answer relevant questions.

Metrics‐Based Management. Yale uses Altosoft to support a metrics‐based approach to management. Practitioners are incented to efficiently manage case load and reduce response time. Inbound customer case trends are measured against response time goals. Management has real‐time visibility into the impact of changes in procedures and policies on workload and response time – by enabling Yale Pathology to optimize Anatomic Pathology processes.
